All the photos and videos you see here were shot by five vietnamese children. An, Giau, Kha, Long and Luan produced over 2,000 photos in the course of five days, each day with a new assignment within the overall topic, "My Family Is". The children all live in a SOS Children’s Village in South Vietnam and had never used a camera before, but within minutes of receiving a small point-and-shoot-camera, they were already documenting life around them.
With this project SOS Children’s Villages and Storyplanet hope to provide children in the third world with a way to make their voices heard. They are eager and able to tell their own stories. Hopefully the project can serve as inspiration for children and development workers worldwide to create a steady stream of storytelling workshops. By working with storytelling the children learn about technology, media and internet literacy. At the same time, the workshop will make the children more aware of themselves and their place in the world. Lastly we hope the project will give you, the visitor, an insight to the lives of the children and the work that SOS Children’s Villages carries out to give all children a loving and caring home.
The first collection of my-family-is-stories was done as a collaboration between SOS Children's Village in Denmark and Vietnam and Storyplanet.
